Just like Santa is busy checking his list to see who has been naughty or nice, now is the perfect time to review your career over the last year and list out where you've been naughty and nice.
Well, maybe not "naughty" and "nice," but, as we close out the year, it's a great time to document your accomplishments and contributions as well as noting areas where you might have fallen short and have some room for improvement. If there's one thing we know as recruiters, it's the value of strengthening your strengths and working on your weaknesses.
These are examples of things that will make you even more valuable to your company--and to yourself.
Sharing your plans with your boss might not be a bad idea, either. Most managers place a premium on employees who take the initiative to improve their ability to do their job.
While you're at it, don't forget to jot down the “nice” things that you've done over the year. Having those handy during a performance review is pure gold. And although you might not be planning on looking for a new job in 2020, things do happen, and the time to add those accomplishments and contributions to your resume is now while they are fresh in your mind--and not when you are under the gun to apply for that new role you are really interested in.
Speaking of looking for a new job, maybe that’s not even on your mind at the moment, but who could say no to a dream-job opportunity if it were to fall in your lap? Well, Stout Systems would like to help make that happen. We’ve just launched a new service for what we call Passive Job Seekers--candidates who aren’t actively searching for their next opportunity but wouldn’t say no to looking at something that was pretty darn close to what they would consider their dream job. The way it works is that we anonymously post a summary of your skills and experience, along with exactly what you are looking for, on our website. Our clients are able to go through these summaries and ask for more information about anyone of interest. The ideal outcome would be a perfect opportunity coming your way. If this is something you are interested in hearing more about, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
Enjoy the holiday season and if possible, take advantage of any downtime you have to reflect on your last year’s naughty and nice list.
