I’ve always been fascinated with how dynamic the recruiting industry is. At the start of a year, there might be an abundance of candidates and a shortage of jobs. Blink, and suddenly things have switched and there are more jobs than you’ve seen in ages, but a shortage of candidates. And then for a period of time there might be plenty of both, and suddenly both dry up for a spell. The only thing I can be certain of is that however it currently is, it won’t stay that way for long.
At the time of this writing, recruiters are finding themselves with plenty of open positions and not as many candidates looking as before. The positive side of this for job seekers is that there won’t be as much competition for the open roles. Hiring managers, however, will perceive the current climate as producing something of a talent shortage—and as such, the race will be on between companies as they scramble to hire the candidates they are interviewing before they get snatched up by the competition.
