COVID-19 has certainly turned the job-hiring market upside down. From our perspective, we’ve seen the following scenarios play out:
Although there are clear signs that our workforce will be returning back to the office in the not-too-distant future, what hiring will be looking like in the next few months is still a big unknown. Some companies will continue to clamp down on hiring as they assess the financial damage incurred over these last few months. Other companies may find that they will need to continue laying people off. And still others may hit the ground running with a hiring frenzy trying to make up for lost time.
So where does this leave you as the employee? Personally, I think that in this next period of uncertainty (whether that turns out to be a few months or a few years) everyone should be thinking of themselves as a potential job seeker. And with another month of work-from-home for many, if not most of us, now is the perfect time to begin preparing for that. First and foremost should be a resume update. Here’s a great article from our website that highlights some of the things you should be thinking about when giving your resume a tune-up.
And as long as you’re at home, now might be the perfect time to bring some of those skills of yours up to date. Another article from our website presents some ideas in that department.
And lastly, some of you, by choice or not, will find yourselves in the position of looking at a full-blown career change. To help guide you through that, we wrote a 3-part series on how to best navigate that adventure.
