“I take pride in my work at Stout especially when a candidate or client makes mention of a piece of promo he or she had come across, either digitally or in print. Even if that one piece of promo wasn’t the exact reason for a candidate or client reaching out and communicating with us, it stuck in their brain and made an impact in their memory. My hope is to continue to keep Stout’s image and brand in our audience’s brains so that when they need us, they know we are there.”

“The passing of our founder, John Stout was a great loss for the company and we suddenly faced several challenges which threatened our growth and even day-to-day functioning. We had several meetings and discussions on the best approach to pick up the pieces and start moving forward. We were ably guided by Peg Bogema and under her leadership, we had a reorganization of the technical talent team, with new responsibilities, processes and goals. It was definitely a novel and challenging approach but I was able to adapt and succeed in my new role. It was definitely a team effort and I couldn’t have done it alone. I am always proud of the work we do at Stout Systems.”

“A software developer came to us after his entire department had been off-shored. He had not been in the job market for some time and, not surprisingly, was a bit worried about his immediate future. As it turned out, we happened to have the perfect job available and it was a match made in heaven for both the candidate and the client. To his surprise, our candidate found himself in a situation that was even better than what he was in before. These are the types of situations that make me proud to do the work that I do.”

“I once sent a candidate’s resume for a role that appeared to be a perfect match. The client declined him and the reason they gave me for doing so didn’t seem quite right to me. I think a lot of people may have simply shrugged their shoulders and moved on. Instead, we had a discussion with the client. We tried to address their concerns and explained why we felt it would be a good idea to speak with this particular candidate. They took our advice and ended up hiring him.”

“I recently had a client that extended an offer of employment to a highly coveted candidate. When I discussed the offer with the candidate, I quickly sensed that there was one component of the compensation package offered that was causing some concern and disappointment with the candidate — to the point that it appeared that their previously very high level of interest in the client’s company was rapidly waning. I recognized this and quickly spoke with the client and provided a suggestion on an alternative way to structure the package that would not change the finances for them, but which would fully address the candidate’s concern and quickly change their perception of the offer to an enthusiastically positive one. The client took the suggestion, quickly restructured the offer, and we now have a very happy client and a candidate that is over-the-moon excited about their new career opportunity.”

“In my role as a developer I frequently listen between the lines when gathering requirements from clients. It's important to hear what clients ask for, but it's equally important to understand *why* they are asking for that. Frequently clients may not know what's possible or cheap and easy vs. expensive. By listening to the unstated background, I can help find solutions that give our clients what they need and want, not just what they ask for.”

“One of my great pleasures is connecting a great candidate with a great job. That isn’t always easy, especially when the labor market is tight. Recently one of our clients was struggling to fill an Android OS Developer role. They were willing to consider someone with very little experience, but even so, they simply couldn’t find anyone. We knew of a candidate with deep Java experience who really wanted to transition into Android development. He had done numerous personal Android projects, but lacked the commercial experience required by most companies. Stout connected the two, and it turned out to be a perfect match. Our client landed a very experienced developer with the potential to develop into a great Android developer. Our candidate landed that highly coveted first job in Android development. I’m always grateful when a client is willing to think beyond binary with us and consider candidates who don’t check every box on a job description.”
