Stout Systems was founded in 1997 by John Stout, a longtime
resident of Ann Arbor, Michigan and an active participant in the
technology boom that is taking place there. John’s successful track
record as a software development consultant in the 1990s resulted in
wildly increased demand—more than could be handled by any
individual. Understanding the skills that are required of a
successful technology professional—programming skills and the
so-called “soft” skills—made it possible for John to identify other
people who would be qualified to complete the assignments he himself
was too booked to take on. And, thus, a company was born.
Stout Systems grew rapidly during the boom and continued to grow
through the “dot.com bust”, in part because of its well-deserved
reputation for finding the right person for the job and in part
because of its flexible mindset. When the high tech bubble burst in
the early 2000s, Stout Systems shifted its focus to providing
contract personnel—because that is what our customers really needed.
Now that the labor market is becoming a bit tighter, we see our
customer base requesting more and more assistance with permanent
recruiting.
Similarly, Stout Systems is not a zealot for any
single technology. John Stout’s background does not make him a
mouthpiece for any one technology solution—he is perfectly willing
to recommend specific solutions when they are right for the job.
